Toast sticks, cheesy French toast and Coffee

Coffee/tea/milo, toast and soft boiled egg, a breakfast combination that's almost familiar to most people I know. My late nenek would prepare bread toasted with butter and sugar, a cup of warm milo and 1 soft boil egg mixed with kicap manis and pepper. Having breakfast at Ya Kun reminds me of the many breakfast I had at my late maternal grandparents' house.

Instead of ordering the usual kaya butter toast, I decided to try something new, Toast stick, and paired it with a cup of coffee.

The toast sticks were prepared on the spot. The bread was assembled before being dipped in the batter and deep-fried till crispy and golden brown. It was served with their signature kaya spread. The bread was soaked in oil and you could see it when you press the fork against it. I had expectations of the cheese melting upon slicing, and I was disappointed because it didn't melt as expected. The kaya spread and toast complimented each other rather well. If you are on a diet, I would suggest you avoid this.

My friend tried the Cheesy French Toast and she bought 2 slices because she thought that it would not be filling. It's their normal French toast with cheese slices in between, served with their kaya spread. One is enough, especially if you are not very hungry. My friend and I felt that it would have been better if it was paired with chili sauce.

Because sharing is caring.
